In Faith, In the Month of Ramadan

The Masjid near my apartment in Queens was flocked to by the faithful tonight for their hour-long prayer session before Ramadan begins tomorrow. It was hot, stuffy, jam packed with children and toddlers totting about, laughing, crying, all as the Imam led his prayers and all as everyone followed. Some additional housekeeping for the Masjid included a notice before prayer, saying “We are undergoing reconstruction in this Masjid right now, Inshallah it will be finished soon.” This is the beginning of something that strikes quite close to me, and I hope I have more to show for soon. Religious faith is something I have always looked on from the outside– it’s something I can’t quite identify with in feelings, but the closeness is in the spirituality and search for something that is quite possibly above, or within oneself.
